X-mas Decorations

Hi there its me again to tell you what happened yesterday.

Yesterday Kane, Isaac and I went on to make a decoration of Santa falling inside a chimney. Then we thought "maybe some one would buy it if we added in fire at the bottom" and so here it is our Santa falling down the chimney with fire. The tricky thing was that Isaac was playing this ragdoll game and we were getting distracted by it  and the easy part was we had all the materials and our Chromebooks to follow the instructions, and well here it is.

The reason we're doing this is for fundraising for the ski trip or to take home for your parents or any one else.  We will be selling them tomorrow evening at our Whanau evening and school talent quest.

spelling test term 1 and term 4

Kia ora everyone Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored 39 which gives me a spelling age of 12.3
At the beginning of the year, I scored 40 and had a spelling age of 12.3
So, I improved my spelling age by 0. I stayed at the same spelling age 12.3.
I think I got this result because I got mixed up because I wrote shower which wasn't one of the words in the test.

Science Fair

Yesterday we had our science fair at Ohaeawai primary. The hard part was making the boats, the easy part was getting the information.  I liked working in a group with Rodd and Kyle.  Our wondering question was "Which boat design will float the best?"

For our first poetry lesson this term, we learned the difference between poetry and prose (normal kinds of writing). Then, we had to write a Bio poem about ourselves. Here is mine.
The easy part was using an example to help make our own poem.
The hard bit was getting all the spelling correct.

Inquiry Term 2, 2019

We have been doing research about Planet Earth and Beyond. I wanted to find the answer to this question: Why do volcanoes explode?  I got lots of help from the teachers and Charlie, Reagan and JT.

Hello there, this term we have been learning about planet earth and beyond talking about planets,the solar-system, inside a black-hole, milky-way and the dark-matter.

Is Earth like a hard boiled egg?

We are learning about what the earth is like on the outside and the inside. We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg!

Earth Structure

Structure of the Earth Facts

We are learning about the structure of the Earth.

I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. They are:

Facts about each layer:

Crust - 8-40 kms thick solid brittle, water and some dirt and rocks.

Mantle - is made of rock and its the thickest, soft and also squishy
and hot.

Outer Core - 4000-6000C-totally hot liquid rock.

Inner Core - solid Nickel and Iron due to the pressure pushing
down on it from the layers above.

Our group - Annelise, Saphera and Aaidyn P.

First we created a 3D image of the Earth using clay, a small knife and some paint.

We then cut the shape in half to show the different layers. After waiting for it to dry,
we identified each layer by painting them in different colours.

Aaidyn's multiple intelligence

Hello, this is my living world slideshow.
For the next 5 or 6 weeks we will be be choosing our own activities to learn about the living world.
We did a multiple intelligences test to see what kind of learner we were.
My top three ways of learning intelligences are;

Earthworms

We dug deeper to write complex sentences. We began with a simple sentence and added ideas to make complex sentences.

                                                    We learnt about earthworms all week last week. We learnt about how                                                       they move and how they survive in the wild. I liked the part when I                                                        was watching the worm wiggle.
